Adventure
One of the most magical experiences in Chitwan — drifting silently down the Rapti River in a hand-carved dugout canoe while gharials bask on the banks and kingfishers dart across the water.
From water level, the world looks completely different. Mugger crocodiles lie motionless on sand banks, storks and egrets fish at the shallows, and the occasional rhino comes to the bank to drink. You are at eye level with all of it.
The dugout canoe is a traditional Tharu craft — carved from a single sal log. Our guides pole the canoe silently, allowing you to observe without disturbing the wildlife. The silence is part of the experience.
Canoeing is included in most of our packages and typically takes 1-2 hours. We recommend the early morning departure for the best light and wildlife activity.
