Adventure
Join local Tharu fishermen on the Rapti River and learn the traditional fishing methods that have sustained communities along this river for generations.
Tharu people have fished the Rapti, Reu, and Narayani rivers for centuries using traditional cast nets, hand-woven traps, and long lines. This fishing experience invites you to learn directly from practitioners of these techniques.
The session runs for 2-4 hours, typically in the morning when fish are most active near the surface. You will learn to cast a traditional net, set a fish trap in the shallow margins, and read the river for where fish are likely to gather.
This is as much a cultural experience as an adventure activity — the Tharu fishermen are warm hosts and wonderful storytellers. Any fish caught can be prepared for a riverside lunch if you wish.
