The Danda Nach — Tharu stick dance — is one of the most visually striking performances in Nepal. A warrior tradition performed with bamboo sticks in intricate rhythmic patterns, it is a window into the Tharu's ancient relationship with their land.
The Danda Nach (stick dance) is performed by groups of young Tharu men using bamboo sticks, striking them together in increasingly complex rhythms and formations. The performance has its roots in warrior training traditions and is also connected to harvest celebrations.
The performance is accompanied by the madal drum and traditional singing. Watching it unfold beside a campfire at the lodge — with the jungle in the background — is one of the most memorable cultural experiences in Chitwan.
Cultural dance evenings are arranged on request. We work with local dance groups directly — your attendance supports their tradition and their income.
