Rhinoceros unicornis — one of Asia's greatest conservation success stories
In the early 1900s, fewer than 200 one-horned rhinos survived in all of Asia. Today, thanks to sustained conservation efforts in Nepal and India, the population has recovered to over 3,700 individuals — a landmark success in modern wildlife management.
Chitwan hosts over 700 rhinos, making it one of the most important strongholds in the world. Guests at our lodge regularly observe rhinos during jeep safaris, walking safaris, and even from our riverfront terraces.
Chitwan Bamboo Lodge contributes directly to rhino monitoring through our support of the park's GPS collar programme, helping researchers track individual animals and protect critical corridors.
